"There should be strong trilateral cooperation among the three countries in order to accelerate economic growth in Nepal," Upendra Mahato, founding president of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) said at a regional meeting of NRNA here.
Highlighting the importance of large scale infrastructure projects in country´s development, Mahato said Nepal needs investment from both China and India to develop large scale infrastructure projects. He also said political situation can be made stable through economic growth. [break]
"China has resources to develop hydropower projects in Nepal and India has the market to consume it," Mahato said, adding, "That´s why we have to strengthen relationship among the three countries." He also said strong trilateral relation will also help the country lure investment from the US and other European countries.
Mahato also said Chinese investors will put their money in Nepal´s hydropower sector only if India assures them that they would buy Nepal´s hydropower.
Meanwhile, Dev Man Hirachan, former president of NRNA, said foreign investors would be interested to come in Nepal if there is political stability. “No one wants to invest when political situation is volatile,” Hirachan said.
