NGA-Western Union sign three-year deal

KATHMANDU, Dec 23: Nepal Golf Association (NGA) is organizing a three-day National Amateur Golf Championship beginning Sunday, it was announced at a press conference on Thursday.



On the occasion, NGA also signed a three-year sponsorship deal with Western Union. [break]



NGA Vice President Prachanda Bahadur Shrestha and Country Director of Western Union Atish Krishna Shrestha signed an MOU on behalf of their respective organizations.



According to Vice President Shrestha, the championship will be called Western Union-NGA National Amateur Golf and will be held on the courses of Gokarna Forest Golf Resort, Tribhuvan Army Officer´s Golf Club and Royal Nepal Golf Club in stroke play format and with a total of 54 holes. The championship will run from Sunday to Tuesday.



The first day of the championship will see over a hundred women and men golfers, both in individual and team events, from Kathmandu, Pokhara and Dharan, competing on the turf of Gokarna for 18 holes of play. A maximum of 60 golfers will qualify for the second round to be held at the Army Club on day two. The final 40 golfers will then vie for the title in the final round at RNGC on the third and last day.



According to Country Director Shrestha, Western Union will provide Rs 150,000 to NGA over three years to organize the tournament. "More than a commercial deal, I would like to say our association is for an emerging game in our country and for developing golf tourism in the country," said Shrestha.



NGA General Secretary Tashi Ghale informed the press that ranking system will be introduced from this tournament and the scores of top 10 amateur golfers will be sent for the World Amateur Ranking.
