According to the organizers, the expo will have 50 stalls of different companies dealing on mobile sets and accessories. Besides distributors of mobile phones, companies dealing on laptops, tablets and phablets, repair centers, and telephone service providers will also participate in the expo.
Local distributors of mobile phone brands like Samsung, Nokia, LG, Karbonn, Lava, Spice, Colors, Sony, HTC, Apple, Fly, Micromax, X-Age, Itel, Intex, M-Tech and Lephone, among others are participating in the expo. Likewise, customers can find various brands of laptops like Acer, Dell and Toshiba, among others and different brands of tablets and phablets in the event.

Speaking at a press meet organized in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Purushottam Basnet, president of MTAN, said most of the participating companies will launch new products at the expo. “Windows 8 phones, phones with Android Jellybean operating system and phablets by about three companies will be launched during the expo,” said Basnet.
According to the organizers, visitors at the expo can get mobile phones priced between Rs 1,000 and Rs 100,000 of various brands. Similarly, tablets and phablets ranging from Rs 5,500 to Rs 80,000 will be available at the expo.
Participating companies will be providing 7 to 70 percent discount on their products and services, according to the organizers.
“We are hopeful that the expo will provide an opportunity to the visitors to learn about various technical aspects of mobile phones, laptops, tablets and phablets,” Basnet said, adding, “We are also planning to organize a seminar on latest innovations and mobile technology at the sidelines of the event.”
According to the association, mobile phones worth Rs 13 billion were sold in Nepal in fiscal year 2011/12. Officials of the association said mobile phones sales account for 70 percent of country´s total consumer electronics sales.
Basnet requested people to buy only the phones that have received Type Approval certification from Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA).
Type Approval certification is granted to a product that meets minimum set of regulatory, technical and safety requirements prescribed by NTA. So far, products of 25 mobile phone manufacturers have received Type Approval certification from NTA.
Entry fees for the event have been fixed at Rs 50 for general visitors and Rs 25 for students. The association will be providing mobile sets as door prizes every day to attract visitors.
