Maoists violating democratic norms: Koirala

MAHENDRANAGAR, May 9: Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala on Monday warned that the down fall of the UCPN (Maoist) is certain if the party acted against the wishes of Nepali people.



Addressing a mass rally organized in Mahendranagar on Monday, Koirala said, "Maoists have been violating democratic norms and values under various pretexts." [break]



Koirala reiterated that the NC will never compromise with the rule of law, human rights, press freedom and civil liberties.



NC Senior Leader and former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba said that there is no point in extending the term of Constituent Assembly just to receive allowances.



NC Parliamentary Party leader Ram Chandra Paudel said that the constitution couldn´t be drafted on time due to the Maoists´ and UML´s reluctance.
