The cadres have exerted pressure on the school that operates classes up to the eighth grade for the past 15 days. The school´s teachers are pleading for their personal security, apart from protection to the school that is located at the famous Hindu pilgrimage site.[break]
During the armed insurgency, Maoists cadres used to issue similar threats and shut the school. The school has operated smoothly ever since the peace process started.
The Maoist cadres say they will use any kind of force to shut down the school, which, they allege, aims to expand the influence of Hindu extremist Brahmins.
“It has become very difficult for us to operate the school after receiving the threat of bloodshed,” said the school´s founder Jagatguru Bal Santa. “Classes have been affected as the Maoist cadres come and threaten every day.”
The school has 60 students on its rolls. UCPN (Maoist) village in-charge Dambar Bahadur Sambahamphe said, “We want the school to shut down as it propagates Hindu religion and seeks dominance of a single language in Limbuwan area. If it is not shut, there will be bloodshed.”
