Finally, putting forth a 20-point charter of demands, Maoist affiliated workers had stopped work at the country´s first noodle factory since September 11.
“Though the management is still to fulfill all our demands, we have agreed to let the management reopen the factory as we have been promised our salary for the disputed period along with Dashain allowance,” said Pratap Poudel, secretary of Nepal Industrial Workers Association (NIWA) at Himshree Foods.
A management official said that the company suffered a loss of tens of thousands of rupees as production and supplies of the famous noodles brand were disrupted due to the closure of the production facility.
The workers said they will press to fulfill rest of their demands after Dashain.
Poudel said workers showed flexibility in dealing with the management in view of approaching festivals. “The management is still apathetic to us. But we have softened our stand as some senior company officials made efforts in our favor,” he added.
The company, which has been manufacturing different brand of noodles including Aaha, Fewa, A-one and Himali, is focusing its attention on Rara noodles - one of the most popular brands in the Nepali market.
The workers have been asking the management to revise their pay structure with minimum remuneration of Rs 6,200 per month as fixed by the government on May 15.
Similarly, the workers have also been asking for a rise in bonus, lunch and transportation allowance to match with the inflation in the country.
“We also want the management to pay our remuneration as per our performance,” said a worker.
