Nanchuan exhibits the skills of wushu player with sword and stick. "I feel happy to set the record of winning five consecutive gold medals in the same discipline of wushu," said Maharjan after winning her second gold in the ongoing championship. She had earlier won gold in women´s nanquan, an empty-handed exhibition, on Saturday. Maharjan, currently pursuing her Master´s degree at Shanker Dev, is also undergoing training under Mission South Asian Games (SAG).
"I credit my achievement to my coaches Pancha Man Maharjan, Manju Maharjan and my husband," said Maharjan. Maharjan´s husband Gurung is a wushu player and coach and is one of the five nominees in the Coach of the Year category of Pulsar Sports Award.
Also on Sunday, Bishal Thapa Sinjali of Kathmandu secured first position in men´s nanquan finishing ahead of Sani Shrestha of Armed Police Force (APF) and Ananta Rai of Lalitpur. Rinji Sherpa of Dolakha claimed gold in men´s gunshu while Niranjan Ale Magar and Bishwa Budha Magar of Rukum took silver and bronze respectively.
SAG gold medalist Ang Babu Lama won his second gold in the championship securing first position in men´s thaichi chian. Hari Prasad Gole of Makawanpur and Dhruba Raj Neupane of Nawalparasi secured silver and bronze respectively. The women´s chian su title went to Sushmita Tamang of Bhaktapur while Oshin Rai of Kathmandu and Mahima Chaudhary of Kailali finished second and third respectively.
SAG gold medalist Binita Maharjan bagged gold in women´s taichi chuwan. Sabina Rai of Khotang claimed silver and Susmriti Tamang of Lalitpur took bronze in the event.
Meanwhile, Shankar Bahadur Khard of Kaski and Tej Bahadur Palli of APF have booked a final date in men´s 80 kg sansau. Likewise, Chahana Bamjan of APF has made it to the women´s 60 kg final and Jharana Gurung has reached the women´s 56 kg final. The finals will be held on Monday.
