Party insiders inform that leaders who won in the last Constituent Assembly (CA) election will file candidacy from the same respective constituencies.
Speaking to Republica, SP General Secretary Manish Suman said it was almost certain the top leaders who won in the last CA election would contest this time also from those same constituencies. [break]
“Our party Chairman Rajendra Mahato will contest the poll from constituency no. 4 of Sarlahi, Vice-chairman Sanjay Sah will contest from constituency no. 4 of Dhanusha, I myself will file candidacy from constituency no. 3 of Saptari, another Vice-chairman Abdul Jabbar will contest from constituency no. 2 of Rauthat, yet another Vice-chairman Nabal Kishore Sah will contest from Saptari no.2, Secretary Rama Nand Mandal will contest from Morang no. 4, Joint-secretary Ram Kumar Gupta from Siraha no. 1, and Central Committee (CC) member Upendra Mahato will file candidacy from constituency no. 2 of Sarlahi, among others contesting from their respective home districts,” said Suman.
Suman further said that their party has intensified negotiations with a ´major´ Tarai armed outfit, Jantantrik Tarai Madhes Mukti Morcha (JTMMM), and “within a week the armed outfit should merge with our party”.
“Chairman of JTMMM Sardar Arjun Singh is to contest from Banke no. 2,” he further said adding that they have not yet decided about their proportional representation (PR) candidates.
A TMDP senior leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that their party has also nearly decided about their senior leaders contesting the poll. “Party Vice-chairman Hridyesh Tripathi will contest the election from constituency no. 6 of Nabalparasi, Spokesperson Sarvendra Nath Sukla will contest from Rupandehi no. 6, CC member Brijesh Gupta will contest from Kapilvastu no. 3, Vice-chairman Brikhesh Chandra Lal will contest from constituency no. 4 in Dhanusha, and Chairman Thakur will contest from constituency no. 6, Sarlahi,”
Joint-secretary Jitendra Sonal said that he will contest the poll from constituency no. 4 in Bara. “I was elected from that same constituency in the last CA election. I am hopeful that this time too I will meet with victory there as I have contributed to the developmental of the district,” Sonal added.
A leader requesting anonymity said that TMDP Chairman Thakur would not contest the poll under the first past the post (FPTP) system. “He [Thakur] will contest the poll under the PR electoral system,” he claimed.
Leader of MPRF-N Amresh Narayan Jha said that their leaders will contest in the same respective constituencies from which they won in the last CA election. “However, the final list of candidates will be made public within a few weeks,” said Jha. CC member of the party Arjun Thapa has said that their party Chairman Yadav will contest from two constituencies; constituency no. 5 of both Sunsari and Morang.
Vice-chairman of MPRF-D Nasir Siddiqui has said that their party was yet to decide about candidates. “However, our Chairman Gachchhadar will contest from constituency no. 3 of Sunsari, party Secretary Ravindar Thakur will contest from Mahottari and I will contest under the PR electoral system,” he maintained.
Siddiqui further said that the ex-lawmakers would contest the poll from their respective constituencies.
