The parties and groups expressed the commitment after frequent strikes hit industrial productions. An all-party meeting, organized under the aegis of Itahari Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ICCI) on Wednesday, also decided to oppose strikes called by any party or group and vowed to free the industrial sector from closures by boycotting them. The meeting even reached a conclusion that the parties would "punish anyone who act under the direction of central level decision" to enforce the strike in the eastern region of the country.
Local leaders of the CPN-UML Maoist, CPN-UML, Nepali Congress, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum among others were present at the meeting.
“There would be protection to the industries to operate in times of strike,” the meeting decided. “If the trend of strike continues, the industrial sector will be paralysed and that will directly affect our bread and butter,” said Rohit Prasai, president of the ICCI.
Respecting the decision of the meeting, the National Muslim Alliance (NMA) has decided to withdraw its strike in Sunsari district. “I call off the strike in th district so that the industry and business won´t be affected,” Abdul Miya of the NMA told the meeting.
In addition to that, the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities, Itahari (NFINI) also has agreed to the decision.
