KATHMANDU, April 6: Members of the National Assembly have raised objections to the government’s decision to declare a two-day public holiday. During a session on Monday, lawmaker Bishnu Bahadur Bishwakarma urged the government to immediately revoke the decision.

“The government’s move to grant two days off in view of the fuel shortages emanating from the Middle East conflict is not appropriate for our public and educational institutions,” Bishwakarma said. He warned that keeping employees idle for nearly three days could create disorder in the country and disrupt normal operations.

Bishwakarma also highlighted that the decision would negatively affect students’ academic schedules and called on the government to ensure continuity in education and work.

Similarly, lawmaker Sabitri Malla demanded that the government roll back recent hikes in cooking gas, petrol, and other fuel prices. She stressed that rising prices and shortages of essential goods in the market have created difficulties for citizens, and urged the government to take immediate steps to ensure affordability and accessibility.

Malla emphasized that the government must control price inflation to protect ordinary consumers from unnecessary hardship.

The government has yet to respond to these demands.
