LAHAN, April 27: Even though private schools in Lahan are reportedly selling textbooks to students on their own, the local administration seems to have turned a blind eye to this malpractice.

According to Rama Nanda Prasad Gupta, president of Guardians´ Association, Siraha, a majority of private schools have been found selling textbooks for hefty commissions from various publication houses. [break]

“The parents are being cheated. This malpractice should end immediately,” he added.

Likewise, he also accused the District Education Office of indifference despite complaints of such malpractices by the guardians´ association.

Prior to implementing the fee hike and distributing books, schools are required to get approval of the Fee Fixation and Monitoring Committee under the DEO. “But none of private schools have submitted their fee structure and list of textbooks for approval,” said Khadananda Parajuli, chief education officer in the district..
