BIRGUNJ, March 3: Former education minister Ram Chandra Kushwaha who was recalled from the government on corruption charges a week ago has claimed that he had not indulged in any corruption.

Speaking at a press meet in Parsa, he said his party´s decision to remove him from the post was “undemocratic”. He, however, added he will neither seek any legal remedy against his ouster nor is in “the mood” to quit the party. “I will go to the people to seek justice,” Kushwaha, who is central vice president of the Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party, said. Kushwaha accused some party members of forcing party president Mahantha Thakur walk in the line of ´Anandidevi´.

Stating that he was given no chance for clarification, he blamed journalists for labeling him as corrupt. Claiming that the current government is only to stay for one or two months, he said he is more worried about false allegations labeled against him than being removed from the post.

When asked how he got money for Rado watch worth Rs 100,000 and stone ring that he was wearing, Kushwaha said, “This watch costs only Rs 10,000. I can afford to wear this watch.”

He even said that he can sell it for Rs 25,000 if anyone wanted to buy it. Sources close to him said that before getting the ministerial portfolio, he used to own a Seko Five watch.

Kushwaha was sacked after allegations of nepotism and corruption in the appointment of relief quota teachers in Bara, Parsa, Sarlahi, Dhanusha and other districts. The Public Accounts Committee of parliament had found that the minister had allocated the quotas even for non-existence schools.

Locals have complained that Kushwaha´s aides had collected Rs 10,000 to Rs 1000,000 per quota issued by him. “The victims have been going to the new education minister seeking refund of the money,” a local said.
