Gharti had been promised Rs 500 for carrying drugs from Nishi to Burtiwang. [break]
“I had gone to a book store to buy a dictionary before going to school. Two men came to me and said they would give me Rs 500 to carry the bag to Burtiwang,” Gharti told myrepublica.com.
Gharti, who works on daily wages on off-days, was tempted by the prospect of earning big bucks. “I didn´t know what I was carrying and still don´t know how hashish is used. I had hoped the money would help me buy stationery. I knew what I was carrying was illegal only after the police arrested me,” Gharti said.
The peddlers had asked Gharti to wait for them at Burtiwang buspark but are still at large. Police say they may have used Gharti as children under the age of 16 years cannot be tried in the court of law. The police have already seized a quintal of hashish being smuggled to India through Butwal from Burtiwang.
The peddlers previously used women to smuggle drugs to India.
Three persons, including Shashi Pun of Nishi-9, were recently arrested with four kilograms of hashish and 11 persons are currently in Baglung Jail for drug peddling. Marijuana is cultivated in six village development committees of Baglung district.
