JANAKPUR , June 6: Two journalists on fast unto death in Janakpur since Sunday afternoon to protest police intervention on peaceful sit-in ended their hunger strike at 10 in the night the same day after the District Administration Office (DAO) fulfilled their demands.

Janakpur correspondent of Republica Suresh Yadav and President of Reporters Club, Dhanusha, Santosh Singh Kushwaha ended the strike after Chief District Officer Kamaleshwar Prasad Sinha agreed to suspend sub-inspector (SI) Shashi Kanta Thakur who had illegally detained and tortured our correspondent Yadav and form a probe commission to investigate the matter.

The CDO also agreed to keep SI Thakur under control of the Zonal Police Office during the course of investigation and ensure security of media persons.

Three journalists were injured on Sunday when police used force to prevent them from staging a sit-in in front of the DAO, Dhanusha, demanding action against SI Thakur. SI Thakur had arrested Republica correspondent Yadav and detained him whole night on flimsy pretext.
