Earlier, the government had formed a three-member talks team led by Home Minister Madhav Prasad Ghimire to hold talks with various agitating parties that are opposed to election. The talk team held talks with the alliance of various eight parties led by the Chairman of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Nepal on April 21.
However, an alliance of various 33 parties led by CPN-Maoist has been snubbing the talks offer so far. The party has demanded that the 11-point agreement that led to the formation of the interim government and the 25-point proposal for amendment to the Interim Constitution be scrapped. It has also demanded formation of a government led by political party.
Sources said the government is holding informal negotiations with the Baidya-led alliance. “We are in touch with the Baidya-led alliance. We are optimistic that they will eventually decide to take part in the election,” said a government source asking to be unnamed.
