Govt passes ordinances to facilitate polls

KATHMANDU, July 27: A cabinet meeting on Friday passed two ordinances aimed at facilitating the conduction of new  elections and decided to subsequently send them to the president for endorsement.



The meeting also decided to promote Nepal Army´s Colonel Gaurav Tandol to the post of brigadier general and Lt Colonels Binaya Bikram Rana and Min Dhwoj Khadka to the post of colonel. [break]



Similarly, it decided to waive the Value Added Tax (VAT) on kerosene, effective from today. The meeting, however, could not decide on the candidate to be appointed as the new chief secretary.



Likewise, it agreed to allow Major General Pradip Bikram Rana to stand as a contender for the post of deputy force commander of the UN peace keeping mission in Monosco, Congo.



The meeting also decided to handover the management of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) to the National Environment Protection Fund for the next six months.
