According to the police, the assailants shot Yadav at point blank on his head with a homemade pistol while he was gambling at a local´s house in the village. He died on the spot, police inspector Krishna Prasain said.
Police said Yadav was on a gambling spree for quite some time at the house of Indradev Saha since the festival of Chaite Dashain on Wednesday. He had even asked Rs 50,000 from his brother-in-law Rhubir Yadav, who refused to lend him the amount.
Yadav was on a winning streak when the assailants arrived on the spot and asked who the owner of the house was. When Yadav said he was the owner of the house, the assailants shot at him. Others gamblers who were present there ran helter-skelter following the incident.
Police has seized a motorbike from the spot. Police said the motorcycle owner has been absconding. Police has also arrested five gamblers for investigation. Yadav might have been murdered for money, the police said.
According to family members, the assailants looted possessions, including money, mobile set and wristwatch, of the deceased.
Meanwhile, locals obstructed the east-west highway demanding that the government declare Yadav a martyr, compensate his family, and take legal action against the culprits. But the highway has come into operation from 4 p.m. following an agreement between the locals and the local administration.
The Maoist party has stated that his body would be draped in the party flag before being cremated.
