ITAHARI, March 5: Chairman of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Dharmendra Jha on Friday demanded resignation of Prime Minister Madhav Nepal and Home Minister Bhim Rawal for "utterly failing" to provide security to journalists.

“There is no right for the prime minister and the home minister, who failed to provide security to both the citizens and journalists, to stay in their posts,” said Jha. He was talking to media persons in Inaruwa, the district headquarters of Sunsari.

“There is no work the prime minister and the home minister, who are only adept at giving speeches,” he further said.

Jha, who reached Inaruwa to get first hand information about the journalists injured in a police action, said there is no point in staying in power in a helpless manner. Jha demanded suspension of Sunsari Chief District Officer Ram Prasad Thapaliya and district´s police chief Bhupal Bhandari for indiscriminately thrashing journalists during a protest on Wednesday.

At least five journalists were injured in a clash between journalists and police personnel. The clash ensued after the police obstructed the journalists from handing over a memorandum to the CDO. The memorandum demanding security to journalists and media entrepreneurs was meant for the prime minister.
