Expedite convention: NC prez tells NSU, Tarun Dal

KATHMANDU, Nov 2: Nepali Congress (NC) has directed its two sister organizations -- Nepal Students´ Union and Nepal Tarun Dal -- to hold their general convention at the ´earliest possible date´.



In an informal meeting with the leaders of NSU and NTD, NC President Sushil Koirala has directed the leaders to create a conducive atmosphere for holding fresh general convention as their term of office had already expired. [break]



Party sources said President Koirala has initiated discussions to form organizing committee by dissolving the existing central working committee if the leaders of these two sister organizations failed to do so.



Central Committee of both the sister organizations have failed to meet after the merger of then NC (Democratic) with the NC three years ago due to internal differences.



A delegation of NSU central members -- including office bearers -- had met Sushil Koirala at the latter´s residence shortly after he was elected as the party president with the proposal to hold fresh general convention. The delegation is said to have demanded that the elections be rescheduled to mid-February, 2011.
