Everest Challengers enters semifinal

KATHMANDU, May 6: Everest Challengers advanced to the semifinal as the group A winner in the First Wai Wai Corporate Premier League T20 Cricket Tournament on Sunday. Along with Everest Challengers, You We Rangers also advanced to the semifinal as the runner-up in group A.



In the last league match played at TU Ground, Kirtipur, Everest Challengers defeated Max Media by four wickets. Everest Challengers gained six points from three matches while You We Rangers earned four points off three matches. [break]



Winning the toss, Max Media opted to bat first and scored the moderate 121 runs losing nine wickets. Opener Pradyu Dhanwantari scored 52 runs off 50 balls with five boundaries and a huge six. Kuldip Malla scored 23 runs off 28 balls while Saroj Maharjan scored 17 runs off 17 balls.



Shankar Thapa grabbed three wickets for Everest Challengers. Chatur Chand took two wickets while Narendra Chand and Sanjay Thing shared a wicket each.



Everest Challengers successfully chased the target of 122 runs in 13 overs losing six wickets. Arun Chand scored 42 runs in 26 balls with seven boundaries. Shankar Thapa was not out on 19 runs off 19 balls. Max Media bowlers conceded 31 runs as extras.



Diwas Lal Nyachhon took two wickets while Kuldip Malla, Saroj Maharjan, Deepak Singh and Prithvi Kharel shared a wicket each. In the semifinal Everest Challangers will face Group B winner Yeti Airlines.



In another match of Group C, Chaudhary Group thrashed UNICEF by nine wickets. Winning the toss Chaudhary group invited UNICEF to bat first. UNICEF scored 115 runs losing a wicket. Will Parks was unbeaten at 53 runs off 55 balls with eight boundaries. Krishna Sunar was not out on 40 runs off 50 balls. Raj Joshi grabbed a wicket of UNICEF.



Chaudhary Group successfully chased the target of 116 runs in 11.5 overs losing a wicket. Rja Joshi scored unbeaten 52 runs off 28 balls with eight boundaries while Narendra Jaishwal scored 21 runs off 19 balls with four boundaries. Bibek Sharma Poudel took a wicket for UNICEF.



Agni Air had already qualified for the semifinal from Group C. In the semifinal, Agni Air will face group A runner-up You We Rangers.
