The suggestion was made during an informal meeting between Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai and top EC officials last week, and came after Bhattarai asked the EC officials about their views on the tentative date to conduct the new elections. [break]
"We told the prime minister that the first week of Baishakh (second week of April) was appropriate time for all regions (Hilly, Mountainous and Tarai) to hold a new election," said Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav, who was present at the meeting. "It is neither hot nor cold at that time."
Yadav said they found the prime minister "very serious" about the EC decision regarding its inability to conduct the CA election on the stipulated date set by the government.
"We have been trying to forge consensus among the political parties to hold election ," Yadav quoted Bhattarai as saying at the meeting.
The EC on July 31 formally said it would not be able to hold the CA election on November 22 following the government´s failure to amend election related laws and the Interim Constitution on time.
The government had announced CA election minutes before the CA´s term expired on May 27.
