MAHENDRANAGAR, March 1: Doctors and other staff at Mahakali Zonal Hospital (MZH) have halted all but emergency services from Monday, protesting police holding two of the doctors in custody in response to a complaint of ´carelessly treating patients´ lodged against them.

Yagya Raj Bhatta of Mahendranagar on Sunday lodged a complaint against Dr Madhu Sigdel and Dr Khagendra Bhatta, accusing them of ´carelessly treating´ his daughter Nilam Bhatta.

Nilam, a student of the Far West School of Medicine, had died the previous day while receiving treatment from the doctors duo.

Bhatta has claimed in his complaint that the doctors prescribed ´excessive medicines´ for his daughter without ´proper diagnosis´ and ignoring her critical situation.

Police took the two doctors into custody acting on Bhatta´s complaint. Other doctors and staff at MZH have demanded that the two doctors be immediately released.
