Kunwar’s sympathizers also had raised funds from various places for his release a day earlier. Kunwar was in police detention after he slapped Dahal on his face at a public program in Bhrikutimandap on November 16.
Two days later, the government had filed a case against Kunwar under the public offense act and had also formed a three member committee headed by AIG Nawaraj Dhakal to investigate the incident.
Saying that Kunwar’s family had ties with the party, Dahal has, in the media, stated he already forgave his attacker, but maintained that a thorough probe into the incident is required. In his police statement, Kunwar said he slapped Dahal in a fit of anger.
