KATHMANDU, Sept 3: After a long hiatus, the dispute resolution subcommittee under the Constitutional Committee held a meeting at its office in Singha Durbar on Saturday morning.

UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who heads the subcommittee, presented a report on the progress the subcommittee has made so far in resolving the outstanding issues of constitution writing. [break]

It is said that Dahal proposed at the meeting to form a team of experts in lieu of a state restructuring commission to sort out the long standing issues related to state restructuring.

Dev Gurung, a subcommittee member representing the Maoist party, informed that the political parties are now close to constituting the team, adding that the issue needs some more discussion as the Nepali Congress is still not totally convinced by the proposal.

The meeting was the subcommittee’s first after the parliament extended the term of Constituent Assembly by three months early this week.

There are still about two dozens issues yet to be resolved regarding state restructuring, electoral system and forms of governance in the new constitution.
