A cabinet meeting held at Singh Durbar today decided to promote Aryal to the post of head of Nepal Police as incumbent IGP Kuber Singh Rana will retire on November 15.[break]
Aryal, who was promoted to the post of AIG on October 31, will assume his post of IGP from November 16.
Government decision to promote Aryal as IGP came a day after the Supreme Court issued a show cause notice against Aryal’s promotion to the post of AIG.
DIG Parbati Thapa, who is one of the contenders for the post of AIG, had challenged Aryal’s promotion in apex court on Thursday urging the court to scrap the government decision to promote Aryal.
Thapa had claimed that Aryal, who is junior to her, was promoted to the post of AIG because of his access and influence.
Similarly, the cabinet meeting also declared public holiday starting from November 17 to 20 in view of Constituent Assembly elections.
