PERTH, Australia, Oct 29:  Members of 17 Commonwealth delegations were stranded in Perth after Qantas´ shock decision to ground its fleet, officials said Saturday, in a major embarrassment for host Australia.

"The CHOGM 2011 taskforce is in discussions with a number of delegations about arranging alternative transport options," a Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) spokesman told AFP.[break]

He declined to say where the delegations were from but said Qantas serves a large number of destinations, ranging from regional Pacific island nations to Africa.

Leaders and senior officials from 54 nations are at the CHOGM meeting.
