11 killed as passenger bus plunges into the river

TANAHU, July 6:
At least 11 people, including including two children, were killed and 10 injured when a passenger bus heading to Mugling from Pokhara plunged into the Madi River on Saturday afternoon after the bus lost its control.[break]



According to our correspondent Samundra Poudel, the ill-fated bus (Na 4 Kha 4684) plunged into the river near Tanahun. According to SP Dev Bahadur Bohara, chief of the District Police Office of Tanahu, the death toll from the accident has reached 11 by Saturday night. "The number could go up," said Bohara.



A joint team of Nepal Army (NA) men, Armed Police Force (APF) soldiers, Nepal Police personnel, assisted by the locals, was deployed to rescue the accident victims from the Madi river. As the river was swollen and muddy, the rescuers found it very difficult to search for the bodies and rescue the injured.

According to SP Bohara, of the total 11 dead, five are men while four are women. Similarly, two are children. The police are yet to identify the deceased.
