Directed by Tanka Chaulagain, the students rehearsed the one-hour-long play for three months. This was the youngest group of children the director has ever worked with.He said, "I've been working with students for a decade now. Before this play, the youngest ones were students of class five. But I really enjoyed this whole new experience. Most schools only organize plays during special occasions. Everyone, from the school administration to the guardians, was excited about this. We did it all professionally, with lights and music and ticketing system."
Sanjay Lama, director of the school, said, "We staged the play in order to provide practical education to our students."
The play is based on the popular Nepali tale of 'Shishir Basantako Katha' which tells the story of how a cruel queen orders the soldiers to kill her stepchildren. However, the soldiers take pity on the two princes, Shishir and Basanta, and are left in the forest. The children lose each other in the forest and Shishir becomes a King of a different land. After many years, he starts a search for his brother.
The story is told through flashbacks when Basanta starts narrating the tale of Shishir and Basanta.
The students performed three shows of the play on Saturday.
