KATHMANDU, Aug. 17: A writ has been filed at the Supreme Court on Friday, seeking to amend the Police Regulations for scrapping the provision of 30 years of service period in the police service.

The writ states that the provision related to the service period and the age mentioned in Clause 98(1) of the Police Regulation, 2049 was worth scrapping as it clashed with the other Regulations and was beyond the jurisdiction of the Clause 39 of the Police Act. [break]

It is argued in the writ that for the above reasons the provision was likely to dampen the morale of the police personnel and as such mar their performance.

The writ has sought the apex court issue a stay order to not give retirement on the basis of age limit and also to not implement and have implemented the provision on 30-year provision. It is also stated in the writ that some of the writ petitioners are in a situation of taking retirement due to the 30-year service provision.

Eleven police personnel, including Additional Inspectors General of Police Madan Bahadur Khadka, Naresh Gurung, Kalyan Kumar Timsina, Kiran Kumar Gautam, Prakash Kunwar and Arjun Jung Shahi had filed the writ.
