KATHMANDU, Nov 20: A writ petition was filed at the Supreme Court on Tuesday challenging President Ram Baran Yadav´s delays in approving various ordinances forwarded by the government.

Advocate Uddhav Prasad Chaulagai moved to the apex court arguing that the president had no right to hold any ordinance forwarded by the government. The petitioner has also claimed that the president has been dillydallying to approve the ordinances on technical ground.[break]

The cabinet meeting on August 27 had decided to recommend ordinance for the formation of Disappearance, Truth and Reconciliation, Education Service (Eight amendments) Ordinance 2012, Civil Service (third amendment) Ordinance, 2012 and Nepal Health Service (fourth amendment) Ordinance, 2012.

President Yadav and ministry of law and justice, among others have been made defendants in the petition.

Earlier, the president had rejected two election-related ordinances stating that they were irrelevant as election cannot be held without consensus among all the political parties.
