What perks do Asset Probe Commission members get?

KATHMANDU, April 4: The government has set the pay and perks for officials of the Asset Investigation Commission, formed to scrutinize the wealth of public officeholders, political leaders, and senior bureaucrats.



As per the Nepal Gazette, the commission’s chairperson will enjoy facilities equivalent to a state minister. This includes a vehicle, fuel, a driver, and a lump-sum monthly allowance of Rs 60,000 for communication and related expenses.


Commission members will receive perks on par with assistant ministers, along with the same Rs 60,000 monthly allowance for vehicle and communication costs.

Staff assigned to the commission’s secretariat will get an additional 25 percent allowance on top of their existing salary.


The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers will provide logistics such as office supplies, furniture, equipment, and vehicles, while the Ministry of Finance will bear the budget.


A Cabinet meeting on April 15 formed the five-member commission under the leadership of former Supreme Court justice Rajendra Kumar Bhandari. Other members include former Chief Justice Purushottam Parajuli, former justice Chandiraj Dhakal, former Deputy Inspector General of Police Ganesh KC, and chartered accountant Prakash Lamsal.


The commission has been tasked with probing the assets of individuals who held public office between fiscal years 2005/06 and 2025/26 in the first phase, and between fiscal years 1991/92 and 2004/05 in the second phase.


Its tenure will be one year from the date it begins work.
