Gunja Devi, a resident of Jogbani, a town on Nepal-India border, was being taken to Koshi Zonal Hospital of Biratnagar by her mother-in-law on a rickshaw as they could not afford to hire an ambulance. [break]
On her way to hospital, Gunja realized she was in labor and got off the rickshaw near the office of Koshi Project, Biratnagar.

Hearing Gunja crying aloud with pain, local women gathered and helped her deliver a baby boy. Condition of both the mother and child is good. "It would have been too late had we taken her to the hospital," said Mamata Thapa Barma, one of local women who helped Gunja.
"So, we decided to help her right here on the street. We did our best to save her life."
Later, local women collected donations to send Gunja to hospital.
