The police headquarter has also been collecting feedback from PSOs in an attempt to correct lapses in the security of the political leaders as well as other VIPs.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Keshav Adhikari, who is also the spokesperson for the Nepal Police, said, “We have begun a brief refresher training for the PSOs so that such incidents won´t be repeated.”[break]
The Security Service Directorate under the Nepal Police instructed the PSOs about the authority of using maximum force while protecting the VIPs and ensuring at the same time that there is minimum damage. PSOs have also been suggested to inform VIPs about possible danger in security sensitive areas.
Meanwhile, PSOs have also suggested to the police headquarter to redefine the VIP security directive and management. They have raised serious concerns over the VIP´s awareness about security issues. They have also suggested that the VIPs consult them before visiting any program venue about management of stage or rostrum and deployment of volunteers.
“Circumstances compel PSOs to focus on management rather than on security of VIPs,” complained a PSO, adding, “How can we protect VIPs when we are not allowed to stop visitors from getting close to VIPs?”
According to Dahal´s security sources, they have begun undertaking physical trainings after the slapping incident. About 24 policemen under the command of an inspector have been deployed for Dahal´s security, said the police.
DIG Adhikari said about 287 PSOs have been deputed for the security of VIP´s and VVIPs, including the president, vice-president, prime minister and former prime ministers.
Meanwhile, a three-member probe committee led by AIGP Nawaraj Dhakal has been investigating into the Dahal slapping incident.
