Vehicular movement halted in Karnali region over fuel shortage

JUMLA, Dec 8: The severe fuel shortage in the country following the Indian blockade has brought vehicular movement in Karnali region almost to a grinding halt.

The long and short routes passengers buses, trucks and containers have stayed off the roads from Tuesday as the crisis deepens.

Nepal Oil Corporation Nepalgunj has been denying fuel to Karnali region for lack of fuel quota, a truck transporter said.Karnali Transport Association Jumla has said that there will be no vehicles plying on the roads due to lack of fuel in the region.

Karnali Transporters Association Acting Chairman Nanda Prasad Chaulagain said that they had been running the vehicles by purchasing the fuels through black-marketeering. However, this too is not available now, he said.

Chaulagain said that they had repeatedly informed the District Administration Office regarding the issue but the latter had been turning deaf ears.

NOC has allocated fuels to Surkhet, Nepalgunj and Bardiya districts under quota system but Karnali region, he added.
