With the further dip in minimum temperature, the residents of the Kathmandu Valley experienced the coldest morning in last four years on Tuesday. As maximum temperature also hovered around 16 degree Celsius, the valley dwellers felt chilling cold all day. [break]
Earlier, in the winter of 2010, the valley´s temperature had plunged to -0.2 degree Celsius. In the next two years — 2011 and 2012 — temperature did not decline below zero degrees Celsius.
As for this winter, minimum temperature had reached below the freezing point for the first time on Monday morning.
Rajendra Shrestha, senior meteorologist at the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD), said, “Weather will remain like this for the next couple of days. There are no signs of change in the weather anytime soon.”
MFD has also recorded temperature below the freezing point in hilly parts of the country like Jumla, Jomsom, Dipayal, Birendranagar and Okhaldhunga.
In eastern parts of the country like Dharan and Biratnagar, although the minimum temperature was not as low as in Kathmandu on Tuesday, people felt extreme could as the maximum temperature remained as low as nine degree Celsius.
