During a meeting held at the Prime Minister´s Office in Singha Durbar, DeLisi also discussed with the prime minister how US could support the government´s plan to address power woes in Nepal. The envoy underscored the need for working together with private sectors to address the problem. [break]
The ambitious plan presented in parliament by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bharat Mohan Adhikari has earmarked $68.3 million for setting up new thermal plants and another $204 million for financing new hydropower projects.
The prime minister while thanking the US government for providing development assistance also sought increased US investment in Nepal during the meeting.
According to the prime minister´s foreign relations advisor Milan Tuladhar, the envoy said many US companies have shown interest in making investments in Nepal. The envoy said recent announcement of industrial accord for the sake of industrial peace for several years is another encouraging sign for investment in Nepal.
