KATHMANDU, Jan  7: An unidentified group on Monday evening attacked Rajan Singh Bhandari, president of Nepal Bankers´ Association (NBA) and CEO of Citizens Bank International, at Bhainsepati in Lalitpur.

Bhandari did not sustain major injuries during the attack that took place at around 7pm on the southern side of Bhainsipati tower. No one has been arrested so far.

“The attack was definitely targeted at me. However, I had never received any threat from anyone,” Bhandari said.[break]

SSP Rajendra Man Shrestha, chief of Metropolitan Police Range, Lalitpur told Republica that the attack was launched by a group of 5-6 people brandishing hockey sticks.

Bhandari was returning home on his vehicle at that time. “The attackers have smashed most of the windows of the vehicle,” Shrestha said. “They even sprinkled petrol on the boot of the car but didn´t set fire to it.”

Shrestha suspected the attack was launched to issue threat. “If the intention was to cause harm, the attackers would have done so as Bhandari was accompanied by only a driver at the time of the attack,” he said, adding, the police have already started looking for culprits.
