The initiative for the right to food was taken through legal methods by the Food and Agro Organization (FAO) under the UN stressing on the guarantee of food right from its inception.
At a press meet organized here on Monday, in Lalitpur, it was informed that various programmes are being run for effectiveness, transparency, on the role to be adopted for its sustainability for making the government and non government bodies responsible for ending starvation and guarantee of food rights.
The organization, which has been stressing that the right to food should be judicious socially and not only legally, has been emphasizing that there should be food availability for minimization of starvation in Nepal and food should reach the communities at risk and existing policies should be effectively implemented.
The organization has said it is committed to cooperate for making this right effective as voluntary guidelines in other member states for ending hunger and malnutrition in the world.
At the meeting, member of NHRC, Gauri Pradhan, Principal Advisor of the Office of the Commissioners to the Indian Supreme Court, Biraj Patnaik, Senior Officer of FAO in Nepal, Barbara Ekwall and the organisation representative Somsak Pipoppinyo informed about the steps taken for establishing right to food as legal right.
