Indra Lal Sapkota and Madhav Basnet have announced their candidacy for the post of chairman of the federation. Sapkota is general secretary and Basnet is treasurer in the incumbent top executive body. Jhapat Rawal and Satya Narayan Yadav have announced their candidacy for the post of vice-chairman.
The federation opted to go for voting after top UML leaders including Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal failed to nominate the leadership on consensus.
The closed-door session, attended by 1,375 representatives, rechristened the organization with a new name.
Sapkota is believed to be close to party chairman Khanal and Basnet to KP Sharma Oli.
