Chief of the party´s youth wing Youth Federation Nepal (YFN), Mahesh Basnet, has demanded action against Gautam allegedly for giving continuity to his activities against the CPN-UML. Basnet has accused Gautam of acting in favor of main opposition UCPN (Maoist) party.[break]
"His [Gautam´s] activities have only benefited rightists and the Maoists. While he is physically with CPN-UML, by heart he is somewhere else. Therefore we request the party´s central committee to take action against Gautam and others led by him," Basnet said in a statement issued on Monday.
A group of leaders close to Gautam, on Saturday emailed a memorandum to Khanal and later made it public. In the memorandum in which they mentioned names of 60 party members, including parliamentarians and central committee members, demanded that the prime minister stepped down and pave the way for formation of a national unity government in Maoist leadership.
Also, Rajendra Rajthala, chairman of Bhaktapur district chapter of CPN-UML, has also demanded action against Gautam. "We strongly demand that the party expel Gautam and his supporters," Rajthala said in a memorandum submitted to party Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal.
Meanwhile, issuing a separate statement party central committee member Yogesh Bhattarai, who is also coordinator of Youth Force, has urged the government and security agencies to identify and take action against those who threatened Gautam of taking his life for giving public statement against the present government. According to him, he was threatened over telephone by someone who identified themselves as members of Youth Force. He has also urged Gautam to express his opinions as per the party system and traditions.
Following the memorandum campaign, The party, in a statement, on Sunday issued the instructions to its leaders, parliamentarians and cadres not to be confused or misguided by public statements made by Gautam.
