KATHMANDU, Aug. 20: The CPN (UML) has stated that the President´s decision to reject the ordinances relating to elections was normal.

Issuing a press statement on Monday, Officiating Chairman of UML Bamdev Gautam has said that the government decision to recommend the ordinances to the President unilaterally by rejecting the reality of political consensus was instead a totalitarian act of the government. [break]

Gautam said, "Recommendation of the ordinances by breeching the provisions of the constitution at a time when the Election Commission had already ruled out possibility of holding elections without amending the constitution is against the constitutional supremacy and rule of law."

"The UML condemns such undemocratic and totalitarian act of the government,” the statement further reads.

On a separate context, UML leader Gautam has said that the President should act to end the present political crisis in the country.

Talking to journalists at Bijubar in Pyuthan on Monday, Gautam said promptness of the President was needed to end the deadlock as the President also holds the responsibility of safeguarding the nation.

The President is the only alternative to end the present deadlock, he said and added that the government, UCPN (Maoist) and Madhes-based parties were solely responsible of pushing the country to further uncertainties.
