The meetings were deferred citing poor health condition of party Chairman and Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, among other reasons.[break]
The party secretary Yubaraj Gyawali said they had to postpone the meetings as party Chairman Khanal was down with fever and the leaders could not do the necessary home works for the meetings. He said the dates for both the standing as well as central committee meetings are yet to fix.
"We couldn´t set the new dates today [Thursday] because the prime minister and other ministers will remain busy as the government is already scheduled to present its policies and programs on July 3 and the annual budget on July 14," Gyawali told Republica. He said a standing committee meeting will set the date for central committee meeting.
The meeting elicited keen interests within and outside the ruling UML party as it was supposed to take stock of some of the crucial intra-party disputes.
"In the recent years, we have seen that the debates for settling intra-party problems were not decisive. Disputes were deferred not resolved," central member Karna Thapa told Republica. "But the objective this time is to conclude the meetings only after resolving the thorny issues."
He said UML leaders have already gathered in the capital for the purpose.
