“The committee is mandated to make recommendations within three days to resolve the differences,” said UML lawmaker Rabindra Adhikari. [break]
The committee comprises Bhim Rawal, Tham Maya Thapa Magar, Bhim Acharya, Agni Kharel and Surendra Pandey, among others.
The committee was formed after party chief whip Bhim Acharya´s proposal to amend the party statute drew controversy from within the party.
Some lawmakers close to Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, who is also the party chairman and parliamentary party leader, maintain that only the parliamentary party leader and deputy leader should be appointed through voting and that the parliamentary party leader should be mandated to appoint chief whip and whip of the party.
But other lawmakers close to Khanal´s rival faction led by Madhav Kumar Nepal and KP Sharma Oli insisted that the parliamentary party leader, deputy leader, chief whip and whip should be appointed through voting.
Lawmaker Adhikari claimed that the PP has almost reached consensus on appointment of all PP officials through voting.
