A Standing Committee (SC) meeting of the party held at its Parliamentary Party office, Singha Durbar to this effect, Ghanashyam Bhushal, party's deputy general secretary, informed.According to UML, it forwarded the Oli's candidacy for new PM in line with the agreement reached among the major political parties earlier.
"The 16-point deal reached among four parties has clearly stated that UML would lead the next government," said Bhushal, adding, "party proposed Chairman Oli as next PM in line with the agreement."
On Friday, President Ram Bara Yadav had called the political parties to elect a new prime minister based on political consensus within seven days on the recommendation of Prime Minister Sushil Koirala.
In lie with his commitment to step down from the post immediately after the promulgation of the new constitution, Sushil Koirala had recommended president to start the process for electing a new prime minister on Sunday.
Article 298 of the new constitution states that the president shall call for the election to form a new government within seven days of the commencement of the constitution.
In absence of consensus, the new prime minister shall be elected from the parliament through majority vote.
