The Standing Committee meeting on Saturday took the decision based on a recommendation made by a taskforce headed by the party´s secretary, Yubaraj Gyawali.[break]
"We have decided to direct the student wing to dissolve its central committee and form an organizing committee that will conduct a general convention and elect a new leadership," Gyawali told Republica.
The party leadership had formed the taskforce last year with a mandate to study union members´ alleged involvement in cases of fraud, murder, violent attacks and financial irregularities and to offer suggestions to the party leadership.
Finding increasing indiscipline and in-fighting within the organization, the taskforce suggested dissolving the present central committee and directing the student union to hold its general convention.
Currently, ANNFSU has a 354-member central committee, a 53-member secretariat and an 11-member office-bearers´ body. But these bodies were non-functional due to internal feuding.
A party leader involved in the study said that they were for suggesting to the student wing to form an organizing committee not exceeding 99 members. But Gyawali said they have not fixed the number. "We have suggested to the student leaders to elect the convenor and set the number of members in the organizing committee," he said.
Gangalal Tuladhar, Prakash Jwala, Bishnu Rimal and Bhanubhakta Dhakal were the members of the taskforce.
Also, the standing committee meeting discussed current political affairs including the formation of a new government.
"We have decided to reiterate the decision to support Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala´s candidacy because switching to a decision to seek a neutral candidate will ignite more disputes and that will push the country into further crisis," he explained.
