He said the second election to the Constituent Assembly (CA) is the only chance for the parties to produce a new constitution and institutionalize the achievements of the April movement. “We will certainly fall if we are to rely on UML and Madhesi parties. Therefore, we must secure a majority this time around. Otherwise, we will lose all the achievements,” said Dahal addressing hundreds of cadres gathered at Basantapur to attend the party´s youth wing Young Communist League´s national convention on Saturday. “Last time we had to rely on UML that would encourage us to climb a tree and then cut its trunk. Similarly, we took the support of Madhesi parties that are infamous down to the last hair of the head.”
Dahal became the prime minister in a coalition with UML. He had to resign from the prime ministerial post as the UML first backed his proposal for sacking then army chief and later withdrew its support. “UML leaders encouraged me to sack the army chief and leaders from the same party urged the president not to endorse the proposal,” he said.
He also came down heavily on Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist. He fiercely criticized the party for projecting UCPN (Maoist) as anti-national while appreciating former monarchs and royalists as nationalists.
Stating that thousands of people had sacrificed their lives for the cause of writing the new constitution, Dahal accused Baidya and his party of betraying the people and the martyrs.
“Youth comrades should be aware of the unholy alliance between the radicals, who claim to be revolutionary, and the royalists,” he said.
Dahal was repeatedly urging the party´ youth cadres to work hard saying that if the party failed to secure majority in the coming election, it would miss the opportunity to produce the new constitution and institutionalize the achievements. “So the coming election is a historic opportunity and you should work with a do-or-die spirit,” he told party cadres.
Addressing the same function, party leader and former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai also came down heavily on other rival parties saying they were creating hindrances in their efforts to bring about progressive changes.
“We have demolished traditional and old structures. But we couldn´t construct a new building as the old parties have been insisting on making an old-type building,” Bhattarai explained. “So the present struggle is a tussle between the progressive and regressive forces.”
He accused the rival parties of trying to defame the UCPN (Maoist) and its leaders as criminals by reviving war-time cases. “Our rivals are hatching a great conspiracy against us. So you youths need to be aware of it,” he said.
