UK minister arriving Thursday

KATHMANDU, March 23: UK´s Minister for Defense Personnel, Welfare and Veterans Andrew Robathan is arriving in Kathmandu on Thursday for a week-long visit to acquaint himself with British Defense and Welfare activity and to learn about issues of Gurkha veteran and welfare.



According to a statement by the British Embassy, the minister will visit Biritish Gurkha facilities and various development projects undertaken by the Gurkha Welfare Scheme. [break]



In addition, he is expected to announce an increase in pensions through the Gurkha Scheme.



“This increase will ensure that Gurkha pensions are kept at a fair and appropriate level and demonstrate the United Kingdom´s continuing commitment to the Scheme,” the British Embassy said in the statement. During his stay in Nepal, the British minister will meet Defense Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, Foreign Secretary Madan Kumar Bhattarai and Army Chief Chhatraman Singh Gurung.
