The constituent parties of the front -- Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Democratic, Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Republican, Tarai Madhes Democratic Party, Sadbhawana Party and Tarai Madhes Democratic Party-Nepal -- jointly issued the warning at a press conference in Kathmandu in Thursday. [break]
The UDMF has demanded that the government allocate budget to establish schools in the name of the martyrs of the Madhes movement in their respective districts in the Tarai and has demanded Rs 5 million for each such school.
The front has also demanded Rs 20 million for the treatment and rehabilitation of those injured during the Madhesh movement.
Similarly, the UDMF has demanded allocation of sufficient budget for the construction of postal roads and proposed East-West Railway in the Tarai region. The UDMF claimed that the government has not prioritized these projects in the proposed budget.
The UDMF has also demanded subsidies on seeds and chemical fertilizers for farmers and customs exemption in the import of agricultural tools.
Addressing the press conference, MPRF-R Chairman Jaya Prakash Gupta said the UDMF will hold a meeting with the major three political parties to formally put forth their demands on Friday. The government is scheduled to unveil the new budget on July 14.
Speaking on the occasion, Sadbhawana Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato warned, “We urge the government not to take our concerns lightly,” he said.
