KATHMANDU, Nov 1: Police have arrested Sunil Shah (25) and Rahul Shah (26) of Shivasatakshi Municipality, 10 Jhapa, on suspicion of murdering Saroj Sharma, whose body was found buried under a bridge along the Postal Highway on Saturday morning.
According to the Jhapa District Police Office, the body of 33-year-old Sharma, a resident of Shivasatakshi-10, Maidhar, was discovered wrapped in black plastic and buried beneath the Bering Bridge in Jhapa Rural Municipality-5.
DSP Khagendra Bahadur Khadka, spokesperson for Jhapa Police, said there were no visible external injuries on the body. “Although there are no external injuries, there may be internal wounds. It is not possible to determine the cause of death at this stage. The postmortem report and further investigation will reveal how he died,” he said, adding that police are investigating the case thoroughly.

The body of Sharma has been sent to the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan for postmortem examination.
Locals living near the Bering River had alerted police after a foul smell spread in the area.
Sharma had gone missing on October 26 after leaving home in his car to meet friends but never returned. His family filed a missing person report the next day. Sharma, who had been working in Kathmandu, was in his hometown for the Dashain festival.
On October 30, police found a burnt car—later identified as Sharma’s—about 300 meters off the Charali–Bhadrapur road in the Hatemalo Community Forest. The vehicle (Ba 1-030-Cha 7194) was completely destroyed, about 22 kilometers from where his body was later discovered.
“After identifying the vehicle, we directed our investigation toward a possible connection between the missing person and the people who burned the car,” said DSP Khadka.
One of the arrestees reportedly had burns on his hand, which police suspect occurred while setting the car on fire. Authorities said one of the suspects has a prior criminal record involving motorcycle theft and drug possession.
Following the arrests, locals vandalized the house of Sunil Shah and an auto-rickshaw, prompting police to increase security in the area.
