The Faculty Doctors’ Association (FDA); Nepal University Teachers´ Association, Maharajgunj chapter; Nepal Resident Doctors Association (NRDA); Free Students´ Union (FSU) at the Maharajgunj Campus, FSU at the Nursing Campus, Maharajgunj and employees at the TUTH met Sunday and took the decision to that effect.
“We will halt all services except the emergency and indoor services starting Monday to protest the rigging of entrance exams,” President of Nepal University Teachers´ Association, Maharajgunj chapter, Dr Karbir Nath Yogi said.
They have formed an eight-member joint struggle committee and put forward a three-point demand including cancellation of the entrance exams, resignation of all employees at the dean’s office including the dean himself and probe into all irregularities in entrance exams to make future exams fair and credible.
Dr Sayami did not return calls while we contacted him for comments.
Examination in one of the four centers was affected on Saturday as students boycotted the exams for Doctor of Medicine/Master of Surgery (MD/MS) and Master of Nursing (MN) saying that the question papers were leaked.
Campus Chief of Maharajgunj Campus Dr Ram Prasad Uprety and 14 students were arrested while around 20 including Dr Uprety were injured in the ensuing clashes between the students and police on Saturday.
The entrance exams for Master of Philosophy (MPhil), microbiology and biochemistry were held successfully at the Nursing Campus, Maharajgunj, Sunday under heavy police protection while five more students were injured while trying to stop the exams.
Dr Sayami has been adamant that the exams would not be cancelled and separate exams for the students at the fourth center would be taken at another date. The entrance exams were held for around 100 seats for post graduate studies in different subjects and there is full scholarship for around two-thirds of the quotas.
